Infrastructures for the so-called “Big Data” are evolving from traditional IDC to converge with traditional HPC, due to the immense requirements of the future generations of data intensive applications in terms of capacity, bandwidth, computation, scaling, etc. We are hosting a one-day workshop to introduce the latest multi-institutional Japanese research projects aimed at achieving such convergence, called the “The Japanese Extreme Big Data (EBD) Projects Workshop” on Feb. 26th, 2014, in Fukuoka, Japan. The workshop is a precursor to the international BDEC (Big Data and Extreme Computing) meeting happening at the same location on the following days of Feb. 27-28th.

Contrast to the BDEC meeting which is invitation-only and closed to the public, the EBD workshop will be entirely open to the public (although we expect many of the BDEC participants to also attend, and the presentation will be conducted in English). Students are also welcome to attend.

Although there are no fees charged for attending the workshop, we ask the participants to pre-register from our registration web page, including the BDEC participants. The deadline for registration is Feb. 1st.

The workshop is being organized by an alliance of Big Data / HPC convergence projects who in turn are funded by JST CREST Programs “Advanced Core Technologies for Big Data Integration” and “Development of System Software Technologies for post-Peta Scale High Performance Computing”.
